I grew up in the best time for children’s movies, classic Disney movies as they are called now.  My house flooded with songs from “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” when I was in elementary school.

Everyone who grew up with these amazing films knows that when they first saw Disney was creating a new princess movie they were ecstatic, I know I was. Obviously it wasn’t going to top the classics, but personally I was sick of watching animated movies. I wanted the good old cartoon characters I grew up loving.

Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” isn’t my new favorite Disney movie, but it did bring back memories of when all I wanted was to find my prince charming. 

Set in New Orleans in the jazz era, a young working girl, Tiana, wanted one thing: to finally open the restaurant her dad had spent his life saving for. Nothing seemed to go her way, so she did what all of us have done more than once in our lives, she wished upon a star.

To her surprise a frog ended up in front of her, a frog who claimed to be a prince, a prince who was put under an evil spell by a voodoo man. Tiana had nothing to lose, so she closed her eyes tight and kissed the little green amphibian. Poof, one minute she is a woman, next she has four legs and is green like her new found friend, Prince Naveen.

Tiana and Prince Naveen embark on an adventure of a lifetime.  Through muddy swamps, the streets of New Orleans and they even meet new friends along the way.  However, trying to escape the voodoo man to become humans again isn’t as easy as it seems.

Does Prince Naveen find his princess to kiss him and change his back? Will Tiana finally have all her dreams come true? I highly suggest visiting your local theatre this holiday season to see if Disney’s magic once again makes your wishes come true. Happy Holidays and I hope to see you all at the movies!

“The Princess and the Frog” was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. Voice talents include Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard and John Goodman.

Staying in the holiday spirit, “Planet 51” is a great movie to take your little siblings or cousins to. When I saw the previews for this I knew it was a movie I just had to see.

“Planet 51” is a different twist on an alien invasion movie than any other ones I have seen. Instead of aliens invading our world, a human actually invades theirs.

This adorable animated film includes voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman and Seann William Scott.

When his space ship lands on the very normal 50s style planet full of little green people, astronaut Captain Chuck Baker (Johnson) would have never guessed he would be hunted for trying to take over their world.

To his relief he meets a young “alien” boy named Lem (Long), who quickly becomes the friend who is his last hope of surviving and returning to Earth.  However, how will Lem be able to hide Chuck, when he literally has no resembling features with the green people?

Does Chuck make it to his space ship in time to head back to Earth or his he left on Planet 51 to be studied as a new alien species? Head to your local Regal or AMC to find out Captain Chuck’s fate.

“Planet 51” was directed by Jorge Blanco and written by Joe Stillman.

Remarkable true stories usually always make an amazing movie. Watching the events unfold on screen knowing they in fact are real gives me chills. It makes the movie that much better knowing it actually happened instead of being created in someone’s mind.

After a full day of family and food, my parents and I went to see “The Blind Side” this Thanksgiving. My dad had no idea what it was about, but we dragged him to it anyways.

All three of us left the theatre with the same feeling, that movie was absolutely incredible. I think Sandra Bullock gave the performance of her career as the adoptive mother of NFL player Michael Oher.

I would highly suggest going to see this film, so I won’t give away too much of Oher’s life that is portrayed on screen. I think every one of you needs to see this for yourselves.

Oher, played by Quinton Aaron, has always been on the wrong side of Memphis, Tennessee. After being enrolled at a private Christian school on the “right” side of town he meets the Touhy family.

Leigh Anne Touhy (Bullock) invites Oher to their home for a night, but a night turns into a week, then a month. Oher becomes part of their family, which changes his life and theirs.

With the love of Leigh Anne, her husband Sean, played by Tim McGraw, and their two children, Oher brings up his grades and becomes one of the most sought after high school football star.

“The Blind Side” is about the ups and downs of Michael Oher’s life and his newfound family. It is hard not to fall in love with Oher and the Touhys while watching their lives play before you on screen.

So in the last few days of this Thanksgiving holiday, go to your local theatre with your family and friends to see “The Blind Side.” I have a feeling no one will leave the theatre without a soft spot for the Baltimore Ravens rookie, Michael Oher.

“The Blind Side” was directed by John Lee Hancock and based off the book written by Michael Lewis.  Acing talents include Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron and Kathy Bates.

Regal Cinemas located in Harrisonburg is sold out of tickets for tomorrow nights midnight showing! They sold out the entire building, so no tickets are available. However, there is going to be a 3:00 a.m. showing since the midnight did so well. There are plenty of showings on Friday and Saturday if waiting till the weekend is an option, but if not go buy your tickets now for the 3:00 a.m. showing of “Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Dramatic, intense and motivating sport movies are the type I can watch over and over again. “Cinderella Man” and “Remember the Titans” are just a couple of my favorites.

The Olympics are fascinating. I absolutely love every Olympic games, winter and summer. When “Miracle” came out when I was in high school I saw it about three times in the theatre.

In most Olympic games there seems to be a rivalry between two countries.  In 1980 it was between the United States and the Soviet Union.

“Miracle” tells the story of the 1980 winter Olympics. Coach Herb Brooks, played by Kurt Russell, handpicked a team full of twenty years olds to beat the Soviets at a sport they had always dominated, ice hockey.

The film is exciting and will capture your hearts.  It’s not only a film about a U.S. team that beats the odds, but about a country’s newfound hope.

“Miracle” was released in 2004 and was directed by Gavin O’Connor. It stars Kurt Russell, Patricia Clarkson and Eddie Cahill.

“Twilight Saga: New Moon” comes out next Thursday, November 19^th. The local Regal is still selling midnight tickets, however it will be sold out very shortly. I would suggest anyone who would like to go see it at midnight to hurry over and pick up your ticket now.

“Twilight Saga: New Moon” is based off the second novel of the four novel series by Stephenie Meyer. “Twilight” was released last year and did extremely well with the young girl to mid-twenty range.

It will be extremely interesting to see how “New Moon” will follow the book and as an addition to the “Twilight” story.
